Yes, very slightly. In order to give 18kt White Gold a pure white color, it is plated with rhodium. This is a standard practice for 14kt and 18kt White Gold jewelry. Over time, the rhodium plating may wear off. When that occurs, the true color of the white gold (a slightly buttery off-white) will appear.

Solitaire Diamonds

I color is when the diamond starts showing a little bit more of the yellowish tint, but to 90% of the people, diamonds of upto I color look colorless to the naked eye and from J onwards they start seeing a bit of yellow.

It depends on each individual’s color perception though.

Diamonds with strong/very strong fluorescence are much cheaper, but they appear milky/hazy in natural light and as such we recommend avoiding them.

We suggest buying diamonds with none/faint fluorescence as there is no visual effect of this.

The depth of this diamond is too high. It means the cut is not nice – there will be more light leakage, so shine and sparkle will be lesser.

Also, If depth is very high, it means the length and width of the diamond will be lesser, than what it should be for that carat size. So, the physical size of the diamond will be smaller.

Diamonds show fluorescence under UV light, It’s like when you go to a club your white t-shirt look blueish.
However what is important is that in normal light/daylight diamond which have high fluorescence like strong and very strong fluorescence look milky/hazy and the shine/sparkle is much lesser. So We recommend None and Faint Fluorescence only. Faint is very close to none.

Actually, when it comes to fancy shaped diamonds (anything other than round), GIA not provide cut grades, so we have to determine cut through table %, depth%, girdle and the visual shape/ratio of length to width For Princess-cut diamonds, total depth should be under 75-75.5% for maximum shine and sparkle.

The certificate number and the lab name is laser inscribed on the diamond by the lab – GIA or IGI whatever you choose So the certificate number on the diamond and on the original certificate or on the lab website can be matched for assurance

This number is unique and corresponds to only one diamond and you can check it with 10x magnification or above.

GIA is the best standard of grading for solitaire diamonds, the gold standard and is accepted worldwide. We usually suggest buying a GIA certified diamond unless you are buying a lower quality or you get a certain IGI certified diamond which is a great deal. Even then you should be aware of what you are buying.

The difference between GIA and IGI grading is of at least one grade. So, a G color in IGI certified is H color in GIA certified and a SI1 in IGI is an SI2 in GIA. So, GIA grading is much stricter and you should be aware of this when comparing a GIA and a IGI certified diamond.

You can buy IGI certified for lower colors like I and down, also sometimes IGI certified is only half a grade down than the GIA grade, so in this case it can be a good deal. The diamond experts at Sarvada Jewels can check and verify this for you.

Also, we recommend avoiding buying a IGI certified SI2 diamond, because it usually is an I1 quality according to GIA grading standards.

Diamonds that are brown/green/milky are much cheaper but they don’t have the same shine and lustre as other diamonds so we recommend avoiding them. This is not mentioned on the certificate but the seller is supposed to disclose to you if the diamond he is selling you is brown/green/milky.

It means that usually for best cutting we recommend that table % should be less than total depth %, however there are some diamonds like this last one, which are flat diamonds, so the depth will be less than the table %

This affects light performance somewhat but not a lot. So it’s a tradeoff between wanting a bigger mm size in certain cases v/s very slightly weaker cut, as a diamond that is flat will have a bigger surface area for the same carat weight
